Founded by Elizabeth Glaser (wife of actor Paul Glaser), who contracted aids through a blood transfusion given to her following a difficult childbirth. Elizabeth unknowingly passed the disease on to her infant daughter through breast feeding and later to her son through childbirth. The disease took her daughter's life at age seven and eventually Elizabeth's own life as well.
The Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric Aids Foundation is the only organization in the country dedicated to funding pediatric HIV research. In addition, they sponsor educational programs to provide vital information on HIV/AIDS to teachers and parents. The foundation also fights for increased government funding for aids research
